Slides:

General:

  • Copyleft materials: Creative Commons offers images, text and other items with flexible, " some rights reserved" copyright. The site has a good search and many of the items can be used with minor restrictions and "without having to pay or ask permission." http://creativecommons.org/
  • Wikimedia Commons: A great resource for media (like pictures) for use in web project. Each media file includes a statement on how the image can be used (if it is copyrighted and so on). Much of the stuff can be used in this class without problems (but do check). http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page.
  • Purdue Owl: A great resources on using and citing sources, includes MLA and APA styles.http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/

Design:

  • Color: http://www.colormatters.com/ has lots of information on color issues like gender connotations, cars color, and international connotations
  • Introduction to color: http://www.tec.ufl.edu/~kdtn/effcol.pdf PDF with lots of information about color including international connotations
  • Greeking: http://www.duckisland.com/greekmachine.asp , great to use in place of real text. Gives a feel for the design without distracting text.
  • Tools to design for color blind users: Vischeck offers two color for web site designers concern with making their sites usable to those who are color blind. The Vischeck tool stimulates how web sites look to people with various types of color blindness and the Daltonize tool is a color blind image correction algorithm. http://www.vischeck.com
