Reading Response 9/29

Drawing on the reading, discuss which type of summary you think you would use in your recommendation report, if you had to do a summary. Why would you use this type? Also provide a brief outline of what you would include in the summary. You do not have to provide specific information and things like actual country you are recommending and why (you can be vague). But, if you would like you can use what information you have now or you may (for this) make it up.

Post your response as a reply to this posting on the class forum.

In Class 9/24

Reading Response 9/24

Drawing on Chapter 11, discuss which types of visuals you think you may use in your group multicultural project and how you will use them. These visuals could be used in your progress reports, presentation, reports, and even your peer evaluation.

Extra Credit:
What is the process you should go through when putting visuals into your document? Hint: I am not asking technical details like copying the image and then pasting it in, but the process as a writer.

In Class 9/22

Reading Response 9/22

  • type of proposal
  • audience
  • purpose

Extra Credit: What is one important thing you remember from the readings for 10/5. Why is it important?

Reading Response 9/17

Drawing on Chapter 3 and your own experiences, start thinking about collaboration in the larger collaborative business writing project (a several week long collaborative project, with groups 3-4 people in size, which will include research and a recommendation report, along with shorter documents).

First discuss your strengths and weaknesses in regards to this type of project. Also, discuss which type of roles would best suit your working and collaborative styles.

Next, choose the model for collaboration which you think would best work for you in this longer collaborative project. Why?

Extra Credit: Sometimes collaborative groups can have problems. Have you ever had collaborative group with a problem? What was the problems and how did you solve it or how could it have best been solved?

If you have never had a collaborative group with a problem, what is one type of problem you could foresee happening? What would be the best way to solve this?

Reading Response 9/15:

This reading response has 2 parts, both drawing on the readings and class discussion from 9/10.:

  1. What types of research do you think you will have to do in your career? What methods and techniques will you pull from chapter 8 to do the research? Why and how?
  2. Drawing on Chapter 9 and the Farkas and Farkas Copyright reading (photocopies handed out in class 9/26, let me know if you need a copy), discuss in your own words:
    • what must be cited and why
    • what is intellectual property and how you can correctly use someone's intellectual property without violating copyright

Also, describe what you would do if you wanted to use an image you found on the web in a written report for this class. How would you handle citation and copyright?

Note: if you do use any paraphrasing or quotes from the readings do correctly give credit to these sources.

Then examine the résumé more fully and critique it applying Chapter 7 and what we have covered in class on résumés. Look at the design, the organization, the content, clarity, conciseness, and so on. Also discuss how effective you think the résumé is and what can be done to make it stronger or, if applicable, what makes it particularly strong.

  • Résumé Workshop, find a job, & time sign up

Reading Response 9/8:
