Mini-Media Mini-Web Project (Mini-web)

Worth 5% of your final grade
Due: 9/20 (midnight)

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is twofold: 1) for you to become familiar with Dreamweaver and 2) for you to become familiar with basic web design. NOTE: You can combine this with your draft portfolio, but you may not want to.

For this project you will create a website using the Hester book. This must be an original website created for this class. You can create the website on anything (within reason) you wish. You may follow the mission concrete project in the book (although you'll need to make it unique), your may start your portfolio project, you may create a personal website for yourself, or you may do something else entirely. I am not looking for a beautiful or consistent site. In fact, you could create a totally meaningless site, as long as you include the required features. This project exists to show me you can do the things in the book and to give you practice learning the basics of web design.

Your project must include the following elements (all are covered in the book). The page numbers for the related instruction in the Hester book can be found in [] after each item.:

  • 3 web pages (individual pages that are part of the same site). One must be the “home page” and named index.htm or index.html. All pages must have titles. [10-11]
  • all 3 pages must have text. Use at least 2 different alignments (can be on any page) and at least some differences in color and size for the text. [12-30]
  • some headings using the heading format [16-18]
  • 1 bulleted list or one numbered list [19-20]
  • background color or images [21, book doesn't explicitly show how to make image backgrounds, I can help with this]
  • a created & applied CSS Rule [22-30]
  • at least one image with text wrapping (and added space around the image) [33-43]
  • at least one image with the text aligned to the image [44]
  • a table with labels, an image, and formatted table colors [47-57]
  • a created & applied style sheet (attached)[61-71]
  • Links: in colors other than the default applied across the site [75-81] and at least:
    • 1 internal link [76-77],
    • 1 external link [78],
    • 1 email link [82],
    • 1 anchor link [83-84]
    • 1 link image [85]
  • at least 1 image map [86-87]
  • at least 1 favorite [90]
  • at least one library item that is inserted [91-95]
  • at least one template applied to at least 2 of the pages (you could add extra pages to do this as long as the pages are more then just the template—they have some different content) [96-104]
  • at least 2 layers [108-114]
  • at least one nav-bar [115-122]
  • site must be published online [125-136, see also the student guide]
  • You must submit the correct URL (major deductions if it is not correct)

I suggest you put the website online via your student locker. There is information on how to do this on this page: https://www.student.gsu.edu/network/locker.html . To publish the site make sure all the needed files are in your public_html file on the locker. See also the “ The Dreamweaver Student Manual Homepage” ( www.student.gsu.edu/~ahatter1/Dreamweaver8) by Alicia Hatter on publishing site using Dreamweaver.
