Worth 5% of your final grade.

The purpose of this assignment is for you to become more familiar with listening and creating a particular form of online publishing: podcasts.
Recommended for: Those interested in voice and alternative forms of publishing. Good for those interested in journalism or anyone who has a a lot to say on a subject. Good also for writer who wants to share their work, get feedback, and develop an audience.
[Note: The Digital Aquarium has some good sound equipment you can use for this project. Thanks to Matt for the reminder!]
For this project you will need to:
- Listen to 3 podcasts: these can be different episodes from the same podcast or different podcasts.
- Create your own podcasts: you need to have at least one podcast episode up and the outline for a second. Your podcast must be at least 3 minutes long and include an transcript (available on the site).
- Write a paper on the experience or submit (another) podcast on the experience:
- Provide a summary and analysis of the podcast(s) you listened to. Discuss the type(s) of podcast, frequency of episodes, content, set up, level of "professionalism" (and if this matters), audience interaction (through a forum , emails and voice messages discussed on the podcast, and so on), and audience, purpose, and tone/style. Include the name URL of the podcast(S) you listened to.
- Reflect on your own experiences doing a podcast:
- What type of podcast did you do?
- How did it go?
- Did you get responses? (if you posted it online)
- How easy/hard was it to plan what to say? Did you use an outline, talk off the cuff, write out a full script?
- What audience, purpose, and tone were you aiming at?
- Why did you choose to write about this subject?
- Will you keep this going?
- Discuss podcasts as a form of electronic writing and publishing:
- What do you think of your experience with podcasts?
- How do podcasts compare to other methods/genres of electronic writing and publishing?
- What things do you think web design and methods other electronic writing and publishing could learn from podcasting? What could podcasting learn from other electronic writing and publishing genres/methods?
- What did you learn about podcasting and electronic writing and publishing with this assignment?
In the paper include links or access information to your podcast (you canS email me the file, but if you do note this in the paper). Your grade and comment will be delivered via a private podcast.
