Final Exam

worth 10% of your final grade
due by 2:30 4/29.
Crtique and original design due on paper or via email (jbowie@gsu.edu)

For this final exam you will need to take the same design (brochure, flyer, or whatever) you critiqued for your first assignment in this class, the Mini-Design Critique. You will use the knowledge you have gained over the semester to critique this same design again. When critiquing this design consider the main class design concepts:

  • Proximity
  • Alignment
  • Repetition
  • Contrast
  • Visual Culture
  • Visual Perception
  • Visual Rhetoric including: Rhetor & rhetor’s goals, Audience, Ethos, Logos, Pathos
  • Color
  • Type choices and uses including voice-over, faces, and contrast choices
  • Readability and legibility
  • Focal points & things that might be missed
  • Figure-Ground Contrast
  • Visual Noise
  • Visuals (including data displays) & Text use & integration

You do not have to cover each of these concepts, but should provide a thorough critique of the design. This critique should be at least 2 pages with single line spacing or 3 pages with 1.5 line spacing in a 10-12 point font. You will be graded not only on your understanding and application of the class design concepts, but on your design skills themselves, so make sure the document is designed well.

Your exam period is April 29th 12:30 pm to 2:30 in our classroom CS 303. Your exam is due by the end of this exam period on paper or via email with the original design you are critiquing (brochure, flyer, or whatever--this is required). If you can also hand in your original critique that would be even better. This MAY NOT be turned in late. You may email me this in advance or by the end of the exam period, just make sure you include the original design you are critiquing (not including this will result in a failing grade). We will decided as a class if we will meet during our design period.
