Cross-cultural perspectives on knowledge managment, edited by David J. Pauleen

National and Organizational cultures, and Knowledge Managment

It is clear that KM is not simply a matter of managing information; it is essentially a deeply socia process, which must take into account human and social facotrs. . . , as well as cultural issues. Thomas, Kellog, and Ericskson (2001) argue that a successful KM system is one that include a knowledge community, where people can interact in the discovery, use, and manipulation of kowledge. Fundametnal to the knowition of community in KM is the understanding that community involves identify and engaging in the socail practices and relationships that are operating in a particular context. 11

Title: Peer Review
Topic: CMS

I'm thinking about building a peer review tool that would be a kind of cms.

Teacher table, name, id

students table, name, course, id, teacher.id

peer groups

draft levels: notes, draft, revision, final

comments: threaded by student.id, dynamic based on draft level,

under notes, questions, requests of elaborations, possible objections, suggested readings

draft: introduction, conclsuision, transitions, overal structure, style, on 5 point scale as well as requests for elaboration, clarification, corrections, objections

revision, 5 point scales on intro, con, paragraph structures, style, coherence,

final, teacher grades it.

Jeffery Veen over at AdaptivePath has some sobering comments about CMS, my favorite of which is

I did some research recently at OpenSourceCMS.com — a fantastic site that lets you play with dozens of CMS installations — and left pretty depressed. What I experienced was obtuse and complex software that was packed with gratuitous features at the expense of usability and user experience. It was software written by geeks, for geeks.
