I'm a sophomore at Stanford. I grew up in Los Angeles. I'm interested in ways to use design and technology to solve social problems. At Stanford I found out about an idea called "social entrepreneurship." It refers to finding new ways to solve social problems and mobilize people to follow through on ideas. One classic example of social entrepreneurship is Muhammad Yunus, who invented microfinance. This is the idea of giving small loans to poor people so that they can found businesses. Often the loans are given to women, which helps empower them. If you're interested in any aspect of this subject, then we should talk! I'd like to learn your perspective. College students around the country are becoming increasingly involved in solving social problems and they are becoming more able to do so because of classes, student groups, and grants that help them to implement their ideas. I'm planning on studying applied math as an undergrad, and then studying some type of design or economics afterwards. I’m looking forward to discussing these ideas with you and learning from you.
