John Bartz -- Stanford

I must first admit that I am neither Brazilian, nor do I reside anywhere near a beach, and I cannot surf to save my life. Nonetheless, despite growing up in the Northwoods of Minnesota, I have a passion for the marine environment and all places warm. At Stanford I study Earth Systems with focus on the ocean, which is an interdisciplinary study of world environmental solutions. My second area of concentration is Spanish and Portuguese (hence the Brazilian flag), and with this I hope to be able to work with policy makers in Latin America in areas ranging from sustainable development of the rainforest to marine policy. Overall, you will find me exploring my many ardent passions in the most pristine reaches of the natural world all the while interacting with local cultures and doing all I can to improve the current state of environmental awareness.
